About This Spot

Stepping into Kyuubi Sushi Omakase feels like discovering a quiet secret tucked away in the heart of the East Village. The space carries a modest, unpretentious vibe that invites you to slow down and appreciate the delicate craft happening at the sushi counter. There’s an easy calm to the room—nothing flashy, just a genuine focus on the moment as fresh ingredients meet skilled hands.

Here, the atmosphere is shaped as much by the attentive warmth of the sushi chef and staff as by the artful selection of each piece served. It’s the kind of place where the pace allows you to savor each bite, where conversations with your companions or with the chef unfold naturally between carefully plated nigiri and each subtly nuanced flavor. The experience feels personal and thoughtfully curated without the need for extravagance.

Rather than overwhelming with an extensive menu, Kyuubi channels the simplicity and precision of an omakase experience, building a meal that feels like a gentle unfolding of Japan’s diverse seafood treasures. The freshness of selections like buttery Otoro or crisp Hokkaido scallops carries through in every bite, paired with moments of surprise—like the luxurious pop of caviar or the rich umami of black cod—that invite quiet appreciation. These are not just dishes but small stories told through flavor and texture, each chosen with care to balance and enhance the whole.

The understated décor and intimate setup let the food and human moments take center stage. This is reflected in the way diners come here for more than just a quick meal—they arrive seeking that rare combination of approachable authenticity and subtle delight. Whether marking a special occasion or simply indulging in a thoughtful evening out, Kyuubi feels like a place where the detail and dedication behind every piece of sushi quietly shine through.

What a wonderful gem in the East Village! Great value for the omakase and Sake Flight. Sushi chef and server were very friendly and attentive. We made a reservation for our anniversary and were so pleasantly surprised with our treat at the end. Highly recommend others give this place a try. We will definitely be coming back!

What an absolute gem. We walked by, saw the sign for omakase, and went in. Probably the BEST meal we had in NYC. Fish was incredible, sushi chef and server were fantastic. Just generally a wonderful surprise

Came across this place searching for a sushi restaurant on Google and the very positive reviews brought us here whilst visiting from London. A bit different than what was expected but the staff were friendly and the restaurant looked clean. The atmosphere and decor is nothing to look at as it feels quite basic. We quickly learned the main attraction is the expertly prepared sushi. The quality truly shined through and each pieces were prepared with careful consideration. We ended up ordering every sake on the menu since the selection was extremely limited. I believe this place would be on another level if they invest in the decor and overall atmosphere of the place. Come for the excellent food but if you’re expecting a beautifully decorated room you’ll be disappointed.

An exceptional omakase experience. The fish was incredibly fresh, especially the salmon Appetizer and otoro. And our chef Ricky was engaging and explained each piece. I will be back

Was my first omakase experience and did not disappoint! I’m usually not the biggest raw fish person but the fish was top notch quality and so incredibly good. Every dish was perfectly curated and the flavors married into the fish so incredibly well. The staff was so polite and the atmosphere was also very welcoming and calm. Needless to say I’ll be back :) thank you for this great experience! (Didn’t get a chance to snap photos of each dish but got the dessert at the end which was mochi :))

This place is our go to spot in the area for omakase and we’ve been to MANY many places. It’s just a relaxed, good quality, go to spot in the EV area. The sushi chef is chill and kind. The music is always nice and a great addition and the fish is AMAZING. Pretty low key spot too. Very underrated, a must try. we keep coming back so they’re doing something right. We tell everyone about it.

So far the only place in the village I've been twice. Phenomenal. Felix and Vivi really kill it back there. They're the best. Went back to back, two weeks apart, and was a little worried the menu would be really identical, but no, same fish, completely different preparation. Apparently they do what's most in season. So last time I went it was very yuzu forward, yesterday, soy and salt were the background of most sauces. I sort of want to give a bad review only cause they're next door to my apartment and I'd like to keep business low myself haha.
